Located between Lake Michigan and Lake Kalamazoo, Douglas is a small community
with a quaint downtown and several historic locations.
Douglas has several nice parks. Shultz Park
is the largest recreation area and
features soccer fields, tennis courts, a baseball diamond, picnic shelter, and playground.
The park also has a boat ramp on the edge of Lake Kalamazoo, providing access to the Kalamzoo
River and Lake Michigan.
On the western short of Lake Kalamazoo, Wade's Bayou Memorial Park
has a gazebo
and picnic areas. The park is a relaxing place to spend some time on a summer afternoon.
In downtown Douglas, Beery Field
is a square park that features a baseball diamond,
basketball court, playground, and public restrooms. The park's playground
is a favorite for small children.
On the far west side of town, Douglas Beach
provides a swimming beach on Lake Michigan.
There are no lifeguards on duty at the beach, and you should be aware of possible rip
currents on Lake Michigan, which can be dangerous.
Douglas has several bed and breakfasts that date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, including
Rosemont Inn, Valentine Lodge, The Kirby House.
Near the center of town, Douglas Union School is a beautiful old building. The school
served Douglas from 1866 to 1957 and is the oldest multi-classroom school building in
Michigan. The building now serves as a "Discovery Center" for the area, providing
historical information and assisting with genealogy.
The colorful lighthouse on Lake Kalamazoo is a replica of the Kalamazoo River Light and was constructed in 2002.
Kayaking & Boating
Boats and kayaks can be launched on to Lake Kalamazoo from the boat launch at Shultz Park.
Lake Kalamazoo can be used to reach Lake Michigan and Saugatuck. There are several marinas
located in the Saugatuck-Douglas area.

Several neat shops are located in downtown Douglas. Blue Star Cafe & Ice Cream
is a great spot to get some ice cream on a hot day.
The Saugatuck-Douglas area has yacht clubs and marinas located at Lake Kalamazoo, including
Tower Marine and Sergeant Marina.

Saugatuck's Oval Beach is a nice park on Lake Michigan with a large swimming beach.
