The M-59 Trail is a paved route along M-59 through Highland Township, White Lake Township, Waterford Township, and Pontiac. The paved trail is approximately 15 miles from Highland to Voorheis Road; at Voorheis Road, it becomes sidewalk and goes east to downtown Pontiac. The M-59 Trail can be used for biking, walking, and jogging. You can use the trail to reach Pontiac Lake Recreation Area by using the sidewalk along Williams Lake Road. You'll need to use a paved shoulder on the south side of M-59 to reach the entrance for the Highland Recreation Area.

The trail is sometimes cracked and has loose asphalt on the trail in spots. Near the Pontiac city limits, the trail becomes sidewalk, and you can use the sidewalk to continue into downtown Pontiac.

You can travel to Clarkston from the trail using the paths and sidewalks along the Airport Road, Williams Lake Road, Andersonville Road, and Dixie Highway. There is a bike route on Main Street that leads to Clarkston.
