Paradise-Whitefish Point Bike Route Map and Information
Paradise, Michigan is only miles away from a few of the Upper Peninsula's most popular attractions: Tahquamenon Falls, Whitefish Point Lighthouse, and the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. Cyclists can use the bike lanes along Whitefish Point Road from Paradise to Whitefish Point, catching glimpses of Whitefish Bay along the way.

Whitefish Point has been coined the "Graveyard of the Great Lakes," with approximately 300 shipwrecks occuring nearby in Lake Superior. It's appropriate then that Whitefish Point is home to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, which contains numerous exhibits and the bell from the Edmund Fitzgerald. A few steps away from the museum is the Whitefish Point Lighthouse, one of the most unique looking lighthouses you'll find along the Great Lakes. With your admission to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, you can also visit inside of the lighthouse.

The color of the Lake Superior's water at Whitefish Point is an amazing shade of blue on a sunny day, but if you're thinking of going for a swim, be aware that Lake Superior is the coldest of the Great Lakes. During the summer, the water temperature may reach 65 degrees (F) in July and August. When the wind picks up and a storm rolls in at Whitefish Point, you begin to appreciate the courage of the people who earn a living aboard the freighters that sail Lake Superior. Because when Lake Superior gets 'angry' during a strong storm the waves are spectacular and very dangerous. From the beach in front of Whitefish Point Lighthouse and from the Whitefish Point State Harbor, you can usually see a freighter or two using the shipping lanes in Lake Superior.

Paradise is a small community with a few stores, some small hotels, and a gas station. Tahquamenon Falls State Park is about 10 miles from Paradise, and the Upper and Lower Falls are very scenic anytime of the year. During the winter, the snowmobile trails around Paradise attract visitors from all over Michigan and Wisconsin. One of the best places to eat in the vicinity is Tahquamenon Falls Brewery & Pub, which is located at at the Tahquamenon Falls State Park's Upper Falls area.
