Little Traverse Wheelway Maps and Information

The Little Traverse Wheelway connects Charlevoix, Petoskey and Harbor Springs--three Northern Michigan gems located on Lake Michigan. The paved trail parallels the route of US-31 and features spectacular views of Lake Michigan and Little Traverse Bay.

Starting at Waller Road in Charlevoix, the trail passes through Bay Shore and Bay Harbor before reaching Petoskey. Along the way, the route reaches parks with picnic facilities, restrooms/port-a-potty, and scenic views of Lake Michigan. In Petoskey, the trail meanders through city parks and winds its way to Petoskey State Park, which is located few miles from downtown Petoskey on the eastern shore of Little Traverse Bay.

In 2009, the trail was extended to Harbor Springs from Petoskey, using a paved trail and part of the shoulder of M-119.

Little Traverse Wheelway is used by cyclists, joggers, walkers, and roller-bladers. The trail is most used during the warmer months. When the leaves change in fall, the scenery is very colorful.

There are plenty of unique stores, antique shops, and art galleries to visit in Charlevoix, Petoskey, and Harbor Springs . During the warmer months, the two towns are popular with campers, golfers and boaters, and during the winter, Nub's Nob and Boyne Highlands attract downhill skiers to the area.

Petoskey State Park and Magnus Park in Petoskey are great places to search for Petoskey Stones.

For lodging, Charlevoix has small hotels and family-owned bed and breakfasts, including the historic Grey Gables. Harbor Springs has a few choices for overnight stays, such as Colonial Inn and Best Western. Petoskey's choices include major hotel chains, local hotels, and bed and breakfasts, primarily located along US-31 and US-131.
